Hymn of Praise from the Jungle
Cicadias sing their song and the tea-colored river ambles lazily beneath me.
I am joined by the occasional butterfly fluttering past me as I greet the dawn from the bow of my river boat in Borneo.
Not so far away, monkeys and birds join in the chorus, lifting up their anthem of praise to you for another day of life.
Gibbons glide silently across the canopy of the rain forrest.
The quiet rhythm of the gentle waves rock the boat as I sit in awe of you. I giggle and my soul claps her hands in delight at the wonders of your creativity. I loved to watch the probiscus monkeys with their exaggerated noses, leaping from tree to tree yesterday evening.
I admired your artistry in the mighty orangutan, perched precariously in the towering tree tops at the river's edge.
The curiosity of the young macaue monkeys, with their mohawks as they try to intimidate me into sharing my orange juice with them must have made you smile, as must the warthogs, lumbering by.
Out of a desperate hunger to savor this moment, I take a million photographs with my mind's eye. They say a picture is worth a thousand words but there is no way my pictures can tell the complete story.
Your creation, the rain forrest of Borneo yawns around me - beckoning me, inviting me, propelling me forward to explore, taste, and experience you. "Taste and see that the Lord is good," It whispers in my ear. This place is saturated in your glory.
